AI Video Production Cost: What Drives the Price

AI video production cost depends on five things: how long the video is, how many variants you need, how many languages, how exact the product must look, and how much human editing goes into it. Bolten Digital (boltendigital.com) quotes per project for that reason, and this guide shows what moves the number up or down, with sourced market benchmarks for comparison.

What does video production cost on the market?

Published numbers are scattered, so treat them as rough reference points, not a price list:

    • On the review marketplace Clutch, video production projects typically cost less than $10,000, agencies average $100–$149 per hour, and a few very large projects pull the average project up to about $42,000 (Clutch, updated September 2026).
    • When the studio Wyzowl asked companies to quote a one-minute animated explainer, the median quote was $5,400, with a range from $600 to $250,000. The data was collected in late 2022, so read it as an order of magnitude.
    • Crew time is a large share of a shoot. The UK union Bectu's rate card puts a lighting technician on a commercial at £457 per shooting day from September 2026, and a commercial shoot needs many such roles at once.

On the AI side, the clearest public example is a company's own claim: Klarna told reporters that generative AI cut its image development cycle from six weeks to seven days. It is not audited, but it shows where the saving comes from: time and production days, not the idea.

    > where savings come from

Where does AI lower the cost, and where does it not?

AI removes the most expensive line items of a shoot: crew days, locations, travel, sets and reshoots. It also makes variants cheap. Once a core film exists, a new hook, a vertical cut or a version in another language is a few hours of work rather than another production.

It does not remove the thinking. Strategy, script, art direction, editing, sound and checking every frame still take skilled time, and that is most of what you pay a studio for. Products that must look exactly right, such as packaging with fine print, need good reference photos and more correction rounds.

AI is also the wrong tool when the value is a real person: a founder interview, a customer testimonial or a live event. Those still need a camera. The trade-offs are covered in more depth in AI video vs traditional production.

    > getting a quote

How do you get an accurate AI video quote?

A useful quote needs the same five inputs as the cost drivers above. Before you ask any studio, write down:

    1. The goal and the platform: a 15-second paid social ad and a 90-second brand film are different jobs.
    2. Length and the number of variants: hooks, endings and aspect ratios.
    3. Languages for voice-over or captions.
    4. What must be exact: product, logo, a real location, a real person.
    5. Deadline and how many feedback rounds you expect.

With that, a studio can quote a fixed scope instead of a day rate. At Bolten Digital the brief turns into a written concept first, and the first render arrives within 48 hours of approval. See how a project runs on the AI video production page, or for ad sets built for testing, AI ad creative.

    Questions

Is AI video always cheaper than a traditional shoot?

Usually for product, concept and ad work, because crew, location and reshoot costs disappear. Not for content whose value is a real person on camera, which still needs filming.

Why do AI video quotes vary so much?

Studios differ in how much human direction, editing and checking they include. A raw generated clip and a finished, graded, captioned ad set are different products.

    Does Bolten Digital publish prices?

No. Bolten Digital quotes each project after a short brief, because length, variants and languages change the work.

Are variants and extra languages expensive with AI?

They are the cheapest part. Once the core film exists, extra hooks, ratios and language versions take hours rather than a new production.

Which costs does AI not remove?

Strategy, scriptwriting, art direction, editing, sound design and quality checks. These are skilled human work in every production.
